Steven Sims
President & CEO,
Greater Cleveland Community Credit Union
Steven Sims is an accomplished business leader with a strong track record of advancing community and economic development, expanding financial access, and strengthening organizations from the inside out. Since becoming President and Chief Executive Officer of Greater Cleveland Community Credit Union in January 2023, he has led a period of steady growth and meaningful transformation.
Steve is focused on Building Something Greater; that being a financial landscape that strengthens communities, expands opportunities, supports long-term economic mobility and resilience for individuals, families, and businesses, and that Empowers Every Future regardless of zip code. Under his leadership, the credit union has ranked among the top ten in Ohio for loan and membership growth among institutions with assets under $35 million.
He has focused on expanding financial empowerment programs, deepening member relationships, and building mission-aligned partnerships, while modernizing operations, improving facilities, and enhancing digital banking to make services more accessible and responsive. One of the most notable milestones has been securing designation of the credit
union as an Ohio Public Depository. This has opened the door to new partnerships with a wide range of institutional stakeholders, including state and local governments, school districts, colleges and universities, public utilities, airports, water and sewer districts, port authorities, land banks, foundations, nonprofits, and community and economic development organizations across Cuyahoga County.
Steve brings leadership experience across both the public and private sectors. His background includes roles with the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority, the City of Cleveland, and Cuyahoga County, as well as leadership and strategic positions in banking and professional services, including KeyBank, First Bank, N.A., and Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
Steve holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Ohio University. He has also completed executive education at Harvard University and pursued studies at Ashland Theological Seminary. He is a non-practicing Certified Public Accountant.
Steve’s commitment to the community is reflected in his service on more than twenty-five boards and commissions and twelve years on University Heights City Council. He has received numerous recognitions and is a graduate of Leadership Cleveland.
